以天真的儿童眼光，对比成年人压抑的行为脱序，进而反映越南传统家庭社会存在的问题;想像大小只的金鱼活在一个小小的鱼缸当中，由於生活的空间被局限，以至於不能查觉自己的欲望被压抑的状态。剧情内容便隐喻着越南社会的框限，用一个全知的角度观看家中各成员角色的行为。欲望充斥在生活的每个小细节当中，或多或少的影响着我们，有时候驱使着进而行动，但有时候也有可能必须付出代价。“红苹果的欲望”虽遭越南政府审查修剪后才允播，上映后却获得观众高度共鸣。可以见得此片对社会与人性细腻的刻划。本片大胆剖析越南女性的「性压抑」现况，让越南导演潘党迪(PhanDangDi)闯出名号，获亚洲电影节亚洲新导演奖、坎城影展国际影评人奖及最佳编剧奖。内容虽经过越南政府严格审查修剪，但对社会与人性的细腻刻划则在上映后获得观众高度共鸣。在炎热闷湿的某个越南城镇旧宅里，住着一个叁代同堂的平凡家庭。家中有个整天喝酒、与女按摩师厮混的父亲，又有年过三十却依然独处的小姑。而无时无刻都在河边制冰厂玩耍的六岁少年小帕，在保姆的照顾下，生活悠游自得。某天，离家多年又重病缠身的外交官爷爷回到家乡来，他的出现让这个平凡简单的小世界开始起了变化…越南潘党迪导演以天真儿童的视角，窥探成年人压抑后的脱序行为，反映出越南传统社会潜在的问题。片中角色由於生活空间受局限，甚至不能查觉生命欲望遭受压抑，隐喻着越南社会的重重框限。

atherhusbandjustleftherbecauseshediscoveredthatshecannotbearchildren,andthatherdesirestowardshimarebasedonsexandnothingelse.ButMartinwantstostaywithherandhelphermoveonwithherlife.Martintellstheradioshowhostabouthisaffairwiththehousewifeandthathenolongerhastheurgetoattackotherwomen.Meanwhile,ArthurmeetswithCudaandtellshimthathewantsChristinetoleavetownwithhimsotheycangetmarriedandstartafamily.ButChristinebecomesangryatCudawhenhetellsArthurthatinsanityrunsintheirfamilyandheshouldn'tconsiderhavingchildrenwithher.Shortlyafterwards,ChristinepacksupandleavesBraddockforNewYorkwithArthurdespiteMartintellingherthatArthurisabusivetowardsher.Buthermindismadeup.Beforeleaving,ChristinetellsMartinthatshereallyhasnoillfeelingstowardshimandjustwantstomakeafreshstartwithherlife.Shesaysgoodbyetohimandpromisestowrite.ButMartinknowsthatwithanabusiveandpossessivemaninChristine'slife,sheprobablywon't.Depressedoverlosinghisonetruefriend,Martinphonestheradioshowhostandtellshimthathe'sgetting"shaky"andwantstogooutlookingformorevictims.Thatnight,Martintravelstoaroughcrime-riddenareaofPittsburghandattackstwoderelictsinaalley,injectingthemwithnarcotics.Hekillsoneofthembysiltingthebum'swristanddrinkinghisblood.Martinisabouttokillthesecondonewhenapolicecarshowsupandgiveschase.Martinnarrowlyescapesduringalongchaseonfootwhichleadsfromthegarbagestrewstreetsandthroughalocalstore.Martinrunsintoanoldwarehousewhereadrugdealisgoingdown.Ashootoutbetweenthetwocopsandthethreethugsbeginswhereallofthemarekilled,leavingMartinasthesolesurvivorwhocasuallywalksawayfromthecarnage.Oneday,MartinfindsMrs.Santinideadinherbathtub,aftershehadslitherwritswitharazorblade.Martinanonymouslycallsthepolicetoreportthebodyandleaves.Hephonestheradioshowhostonefinaltimetosaythathereallydoesn'tneedfriendsorpeopletotalktoforheishisownperson.ButwhenCudalearnsaboutMrs.Santini'ssuicide,ismistakenlythinksMartinkilledherandmadeitlooklikeasuicideashe'sdonebefore.CudawalksintoMartin'sroomwhileheisasleepandkillshimbyhammeringawoodenstakethroughMartin'sheart.CudaburiesMartin'sbodyinhisbackgarden,whileovertheclosingcreditsvariousvoicesfrompeopleareheardtalkingtotheradioshowhostaskingthewhereaboutsof"theCount".
