雄心勃勃的酒店经理莱尔克抓住了一个千载难逢的机会，她的老板派她去西班牙马拉加，在芒果农场中间开发一家宏伟的新酒店。这个农场属于亚历克斯，他是一名前律师，由于他无法释怀的悲惨过去而拒绝出售。莱尔克带着她的女儿艾格尼丝一起来，她期待着与忙碌的母亲度过一个难得的假期，至少她是这么认为的。随着莱尔克和亚历克斯之间意想不到的感情开始绽放，两人都被迫做出影响他们的事业、家庭关系，并最终影响他们心灵的选择。

该片改编自同名小说，素材取自于2011年发生的加湿器杀菌剂事件，通过这个事件来讲述有些事情必须有人去做，还没有结束的我们所有人的故事。金相庆饰演因不明的肺部疾病而失去了妻子，儿子的生命也受到威胁的外科医生“郑泰浩”，徐英姬饰演他的妻子“韩吉珠”，李先彬饰演曾经在地方检察院担任检察官，但因为姐姐吉珠的死亡成为律师的“韩英珠”，尹京浩饰演加湿器杀菌剂制药公司的科长“徐宇植”。

年轻军官许文强（张国荣）逃往路上被日本特务伏击堕海，漂浮到外滩岸上时身体不支晕倒，丁力（刘德华）路过欲将其救却遭其下意识的武力，两人一番打斗后结为好友。丁力偶然救下上海大亨冯敬尧（吴兴国）的千金冯程程（宁静）后，许下心愿要娶其为妻，但襄王有梦神女却心另有所属，冯程程只把他当好朋友，爱的恰是某次旅途中在火车上结识的他的好兄弟许文强，而许文强也因她的勇敢善良机智对她产生了好感。许文强再次遇上冯程程时，激情没能控制，与丁力的交情画上句号。而当许文强与冯程程谈婚论嫁时，许文强意外发现冯敬尧正是追杀他和同僚的幕后黑手，他的身份也被对方认出，火药味顿时弥漫房间。

这部电影讲述一对逃离俄罗斯前往瑞典的政治避难者——塞吉和娜塔莉亚的故事。他们带着他们的两个女儿卡佳和阿莉娜，希望在瑞典过上更好的生活。然而，当他们的避难请求被拒绝后，他们的希望破灭了。由于遭到拒绝而受到打击，他们的女儿卡佳突然陷入一种昏睡状态，这种状态也被称为“顺从综合症”，这是一种主要影响难民儿童的医学谜团。

atherhusbandjustleftherbecauseshediscoveredthatshecannotbearchildren,andthatherdesirestowardshimarebasedonsexandnothingelse.ButMartinwantstostaywithherandhelphermoveonwithherlife.Martintellstheradioshowhostabouthisaffairwiththehousewifeandthathenolongerhastheurgetoattackotherwomen.Meanwhile,ArthurmeetswithCudaandtellshimthathewantsChristinetoleavetownwithhimsotheycangetmarriedandstartafamily.ButChristinebecomesangryatCudawhenhetellsArthurthatinsanityrunsintheirfamilyandheshouldn'tconsiderhavingchildrenwithher.Shortlyafterwards,ChristinepacksupandleavesBraddockforNewYorkwithArthurdespiteMartintellingherthatArthurisabusivetowardsher.Buthermindismadeup.Beforeleaving,ChristinetellsMartinthatshereallyhasnoillfeelingstowardshimandjustwantstomakeafreshstartwithherlife.Shesaysgoodbyetohimandpromisestowrite.ButMartinknowsthatwithanabusiveandpossessivemaninChristine'slife,sheprobablywon't.Depressedoverlosinghisonetruefriend,Martinphonestheradioshowhostandtellshimthathe'sgetting"shaky"andwantstogooutlookingformorevictims.Thatnight,Martintravelstoaroughcrime-riddenareaofPittsburghandattackstwoderelictsinaalley,injectingthemwithnarcotics.Hekillsoneofthembysiltingthebum'swristanddrinkinghisblood.Martinisabouttokillthesecondonewhenapolicecarshowsupandgiveschase.Martinnarrowlyescapesduringalongchaseonfootwhichleadsfromthegarbagestrewstreetsandthroughalocalstore.Martinrunsintoanoldwarehousewhereadrugdealisgoingdown.Ashootoutbetweenthetwocopsandthethreethugsbeginswhereallofthemarekilled,leavingMartinasthesolesurvivorwhocasuallywalksawayfromthecarnage.Oneday,MartinfindsMrs.Santinideadinherbathtub,aftershehadslitherwritswitharazorblade.Martinanonymouslycallsthepolicetoreportthebodyandleaves.Hephonestheradioshowhostonefinaltimetosaythathereallydoesn'tneedfriendsorpeopletotalktoforheishisownperson.ButwhenCudalearnsaboutMrs.Santini'ssuicide,ismistakenlythinksMartinkilledherandmadeitlooklikeasuicideashe'sdonebefore.CudawalksintoMartin'sroomwhileheisasleepandkillshimbyhammeringawoodenstakethroughMartin'sheart.CudaburiesMartin'sbodyinhisbackgarden,whileovertheclosingcreditsvariousvoicesfrompeopleareheardtalkingtotheradioshowhostaskingthewhereaboutsof"theCount".
